Hey Mazzy, well, to be honest they are so many different types of anime, and there is something for everyone.
So, basically you choose an anime that you would be interested in. There are horrors, dramas, comedy's, ones that are aimed at different ages and genders.
I would recommend looking on the website crunchyroll.com, which contains almost every anime in existence, including movies and shows.

like said, it depends what type of movie you like. But i would reccomend some time down the road you watch ;The Girl Who Leapt Through Time' (for some humour) or 'perfect blue' for something a little darker if you like psychological thrillers.

for me it all started with Digimon... i was never a Pokemon watcher. I fell in love with one of the characters story arcs and so from then realised that Anime is actually more intelligent than a lot of regular cartoons and programmes.

Definitely have to agree with Tunafish1, anime is certainly more intelligent.
Anime is always designed to appeal to at least one group of people, and as it can appeal to a diverse range of ages, it has no limitations.
I love watching anime because it's artistic and beautiful and often deep with meaningful storylines, which can't be said of other usual cartoons.
I watched Digimon too, but I must admit I also watched Pokemon and Sailormoon too!
